NOLS kayaking expedition, Heiltsuk Territory

The Misogi
Challenge.

Once a year, I take on a rigorous challenge with 50/50 odds of success, on purpose. It's how I test what I actually believe I'm capable of.

Three entries.

NOLS sea kayaking expedition
Entry 01 · 2022 · Heiltsuk Territory, BC

NOLS Expedition

Partook in and led a fully remote, 30 day sea kayaking expedition with an international team of 13, traveling over 300 nautical miles across open ocean and untouched territory.

Entry 02 · 2024 · Silent Retreat

10 Days of Noble Silence

Completed a 10 day meditation discipline observing noble silence (no speech, gestures, or reading), adhering to a demanding 4:00am to 10:00pm schedule with minimal breaks, and over 100 hours of deep meditation.

100+ HOURS
ALCATRAZ SF
Entry 03 · 2026 · In Progress

Alcatraz to SF

This year's challenge: swim the open water crossing from Alcatraz to San Francisco, trained for every morning before work. Next up on the list, if this one doesn't land: a multi-day solo backpacking trip.

Not many things I'd rather spend my last dollar on.

There aren't many things in life that hold the same level of importance to me as travel. Not many ways I'd rather spend my last dollar, not many experiences I'd rather share with the people I love, and not many things I'd rather spend my life doing.

Travel reminds me to feel grateful for my surroundings and teaches me the importance of acquiring experiences, not material things.

School is only part of it.

My education comes first in life because, to me, the word means more than schooling or certifications. It's about learning how to lead, practicing service leadership, and building a deeper understanding of myself.

I'm working toward a BBA in Finance and Financial Management Services at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (2023–2027), carrying a 3.75 cumulative GPA and a 3.9 in my major. I believe the only path to becoming a successful entrepreneur in service of others is to first build a strong foundation with extreme learning experiences, like the Misogi Challenge, paired with the small, consistent efforts that matter, like reading.

The three that changed how I think.

158.1 GO

The Go-Giver Series

A few books about the power of providing more value than you take as payment, in life and in business.

158.1 ROB

Awaken the Giant Within

Despite the corny title, a manual for uncovering your value hierarchy and changing habitual patterns to control your experience of life.

155.2 DWE

Mindset

On the importance of maintaining a growth mindset, regardless of how much you may already know.

Always up for a meaningful conversation.
